Hong Kong International Terminals (HIT) on Strike

Dear All,

Hong Kong biggest ocean container terminal, HIT, has been undergoing a strike to seventh day.

Stevedores request a wage increase of 17% over a 2 year period. However, this proposal has been rejected by the employers. The Hong Kong Labour Department and HIT top management have involved but it seems the parties are unable to compromise within this week.

Currently HIT maintains 50% of its normal productivity. Over 80 vessels will be berthing at HIT over the next 3 days. This situation will cause delays and general port congestion.

To play safe, will suggest customers choose a vessel berthing at MTL (another terminal operator) to avoid unnecessary delays. However, some shipping lines co-operate with two terminals (HIT and MTL) so we need verify with carriers of each sailing.

For your quick reference, below carriers work with MTL:
Maersk
CSAV
ZIM
G6 (some service loops)

After receiving bookings from shippers, we will check and propose sailing schedules for your approval.
