City Link raises over £3,000 to help children’s wishes come true

City Link, the UK’s premium express delivery company, has helped a charity which fulfils the wishes of many of the UK’s bravest children.

The company has handed £3,257 to Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK, which every year arranges to fulfil the wishes of hundreds of children with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses.

The money was raised through City Link’s internal employee survey – Your Voice Counts.

The survey – designed to allow employees to suggest positive changes within City Link to help improve life within the company and improve communication – was circulated to every employee.

The money was raised when the company donated £1 for every completed survey returned.

Dave Smith, Managing Director of City Link, presented a cheque to charity volunteer Jodie Sabin.

The money will be put towards granting the wishes of some 1,400 children this year, at an anticipated cost of £6.8 million.

NEW CENTURY TRANSPORTATION, INC. COMPLETES $104 MILLION DEBT REFINANCING AND RAISES ADDITIONAL EQUITY CAPITAL

Proceeds from the transactions will be used to refinance existing senior debt and for general corporate purposes.

REPORTS TO: Central Billing Supervisor

OVERVIEW OF ROLE: Always services the customer first through a role involving accurate data entry of information from customer’s bill of lading into Ward’s freight bill system. Upon successfully completing training period and sustaining bills per hour and error ratio, candidate may be provided the option to work from home at the company’s discretion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Accurately enter data from the customer’s bill of lading / shipping order into Ward’s freight bill system.

· Work with employees at service centers via the telephone to gain clarity on bills that may be unclear.

· Work to provide customer satisfaction by learning and understanding customer’s unique requirements in the billing process.

· Respond to customer and employee questions via the telephone demonstrating Ward’s standard for telephone etiquette.

· Completes assignments on a timely basis.

· Shows high level of teamwork within the Billing Department.

· Maintain billing at 45 bills per hour and less than 1.5% error ratio.

· Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Billing Supervisor, Rates and Audits Manager and/or Director of Pricing.

· Fully support all technologies and processes, introduced by Ward, that are intended to improve efficiencies and/or the customer experience. Support would include adherence to training programs, guidelines and processes associated with these systems.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be able to work evening hours / hours required.

· Must have excellent data entry skills.

· Must be proficient in business math and analytical skills.

· Must have good verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with employees at other locations.

Resurrections is a helping hands ministry that hosts a lunch every Saturday in downtown Columbia, offering a hot meal and welcoming environment to those in need. Southeastern Freight Lines, a regional less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services provider headquartered in nearby Lexington, will partner throughout the year to feed Columbia’s homeless and hungry.

Resurrections, a non-profit organization, is supported entirely through donations and volunteer staff and hosts the weekly Saturday lunches at the Kelly Suggs Law Center in downtown Columbia. Without Resurrections and the donations of time, money and food from the Columbia community and companies like Southeastern, the homeless in downtown Columbia would have no consistent place to eat on Saturday.

“Our lunches are truly an effort of the community to help the community,” said Larry Nichols, director at Resurrections. “The efforts of Southeastern have been a true blessing to Resurrections and those we serve. Southeastern’s culture of community service and commitment by employees to the communities they serve is something they live in both word and action, and to see this company spirit flourish at our Saturday lunches has been truly remarkable and rare.”

Resurrections provides a full meal with hot dogs, fruit, chips, cookies, drinks and other food that is often homemade by volunteers, every Saturday, rain or shine, even on holidays. “Those we serve often tell us that if we were not there, they would not eat,” added Nichols.

R+L developing new tech to ensure compliance with US/Canada Shipping Requirements

Beginning November 1, 2012 the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will require all road and rail carriers to submit electronic transmission of cargo information before freight reaches the border. R+L Carriers is working to update our e-communication process with our patented in-cab scanning devices to achieve compliance well ahead of the scheduled November 1, 2012 deadline.

What are the new requirements?

The new CBSA requirements are part of the Advance Commercial Information (ACI) program. This program enables the CBSA to quickly obtain comprehensive information regarding shipments moving across the border, to protect the health, safety and security of Canadian citizens while facilitating the movement of low-risk shipments.
eManifest is the third phase of ACI and affects carriers for all highway and rail shipments. Phase 1, implemented in 2004, dealt with marine carriers, while Phase 2, implemented in 2006, affected air and freight forwarders. The information submitted is based partially on the shipper’s documents – such as complete descriptions of the shipments. Additional information submitted will include dispatch-related facts such as the identity of the trucks, trailers and tractors that will carry shipments across the border, the time the cargo will reach the border, etc. Canada Customs must validate and approve the shipments for entry into Canada. This information is in addition to the current PARS clearance process that supports Northbound shipments moving into Canada today.

What do you need to do differently?

Nothing. You will simply continue to provide customs documentation at the time of pick up or send them directly to your broker.

How is the R+L Carriers/Day & Ross Partnership preparing for this?

Both R+L Carriers Tracking  and Day & Ross’ Information Technology Teams are updating our systems to accommodate the additional requirements for compliance with the new eManifest regulations. Testing is in progress and as outlined above R+L and Day & Ross will be fully compliant well in advance of the CBSA scheduled November 1, 2012 effective date.
