Nippon Express sets up regional management organization in Thailand to bolster logistics functions

Nippon Express (South Asia & Oceania) Pte. Ltd. (Yasunori Takahashi, President; hereinafter, “NSAO”), a local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), opened the NSAO Mekong Development Center in Bangkok, Thailand on October 1 to bolster Nippon Express’ logistics functions in South Asia and Oceania, particularly in the Mekong Region (*1).
The diversification of needs as well as market/social changes in South Asia in recent years have made it all the more necessary that the Nippon Express Group as a whole adopt to more comprehensive approach. Taking full advantage of Thailand’s status as a core ASEAN member and as a country developing number of industrial clusters, this new Center was opened as a regional management organization to provide multifaceted support for the Nippon Express Group’s logistics operations, transport networks, trucking services, new businesses, and IT planning/development/sales functions in the South Asia & Oceania Region.

Nippon Express (China) concludes memorandum with Kazakhstan Railways on rail transport collaboration

September 20, 2017 – Nippon Express (China) Co., Ltd. (Tatsuo Sugiyama, President), a local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), on Tuesday, August 15 concluded a memorandum of understanding in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana with Kazakhstan Railways National Company (hereinafter, “KTZ”), Kazakhstan’s national railway company, and with KTZ Express, a KTZ subsidiary engaged in logistics operations.

Kazakhstan is a key junction for railway transport linking East Asia and Europe. In response to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Nippon Express (China) in November 2015 began developing cross-border rail transport services spanning the Eurasian continent between China and Europe, and it has since enhanced these services and increased the number of cities served.

Nippon Express (Myanmar) to open Myawaddy Office on September 1

August 29, 2017 – Nippon Express (Myanmar) Co., Ltd. (Hiroshi Nojiri, President), a local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President), will open an office in Myawaddy Township, Kayin State on Friday, September 1.

Myawaddy is located on the Thai border and along the route of the East-West Economic Corridor connecting Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. Cross-border truck transport between Myanmar and Thailand is expected to rise in future, and this will make Myawaddy, which accounts for the majority of border trade between the two countries, all the more important.

By carrying out its own operations in this locale, Nippon Express will be better able to manage transport schedules and garner know-how on the country’s customs clearance system. The new Myawaddy Office will be Nippon Express’ third business location in Myanmar.

(Mitsuru Saito, President), has established Nippon Express’ first business location in Africa – Kenya Branch – in Nairobi, the capital city of the Republic of Kenya, and will begin operations at this new facility on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
The 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) was held in Nairobi in August 2016, the first TICAD ever held in Africa. At this event, the Japanese government announced its intention to make available a total of 30 billion yen in both public and private investment over the three-year period 2016-2018, prompting a growing number of Japanese companies to set up operations in Africa.

Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Mitsuru Saito, President) has constructed a new freezer/refrigerator facility – the Narita Temperature Controlled HUB – in its Narita Airport Logistics Center, about 5km from Narita Airport, to serve as a logistics location offering strict temperature control for international air cargo. This facility began operations on July 12.
