Reddaway Professional Drivers Win State Driving Competitions in California and Idaho

CLACKAMAS, Ore., July 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — (NASDAQ: YRCW) — Two Reddaway professional drivers have won top honors for safe-driving skills in the states of California and Idaho. Tracy Dewees placed first in the twin trailers class at the California Professional Truck Driving Championships. Scott Colwell placed first in the sleeper class at the Idaho State Truck Driving Championships.

Dewees and Colwell will go on to compete in the 2012 National Truck Driving Championships in Minneapolis, August 7-11.

Dewees has competed at state driving competitions since 1997, always in the twin trailers class. This is his first year to qualify for the national competition. He has logged more than two million safe-driving miles as a Reddaway driver. He has worked without a driving accident or workplace injury since joining the company in 1990. An over-the-road driver his entire Reddaway career, Dewees is based at the Reddaway facility in Los Angeles. He shares his safety expertise as a certified Long Commercial Vehicle (LCV) trainer for Reddaway. Dewees has worked in the transportation industry for 27 years.

This will be Colwell’s third time at the national championships. He won state titles in the sleeper class in 2012 and 2009 as well as 3-axle class in 2007. He began competing in the state competitions 12 years ago. Colwell currently has 18 years of accident-free driving. He has worked in the transportation industry for 25 years, the last 20 years with Reddaway. Colwell, who has been a local pickup and delivery driver his entire Reddaway career, is based at the Reddaway facility in Boise.

Reddaway drivers are encouraged to use driving competitions as a way to sharpen their safe-driving skills. “Employees like Tracy Dewees and Scott Colwell who lead through safety are the reason Reddaway leads the industry in next-day transit, damage-free deliveries, and on-time performance. The safer we are, the better transportation services we provide,” said Dave Yonemoto, director of safety for Reddaway.

To qualify for the national championships, drivers must place first in their respective class at state competition. Both the state and national competitions include challenging driving skills and maneuvering tests, a pre-trip inspection, and a written examination covering vehicle operation and federal safety regulations. To participate in the state competitions, drivers must be accident-free for one year.
