(From APC) A local courier firm is looking to make arranging next day deliveries easier than ever following the opening of a new drop-in centre earlier this month.

Poole-based Roadlink Logistics, part of the APC Overnight network, is the only privately owned courier company in the local area able to provide nationwide next day deliveries to customers walking in off the street.

The company makes on average 16,000 deliveries per month in the local area and receives over 600 parcels from local individuals and businesses for nationwide delivery every day.

The decision to open a new fast-track drop-in centre followed a 250 per cent increase in demand for over the counter delivery requests during 2013.

Andy Trim, Depot Principal at Roadlink Logistics, commented: “We know just how important on time delivery services are to customers, particularly when sending packages overnight, so were keen to make it as quick and hassle free as possible.“

“Whether sending a package to a friend in Frome or a cousin in Cardiff, local residents can pay us a visit, and ensure their delivery arrives at its destination on time.“

APC Overnight is the UK’s largest independent parcel company, with 115 depots across the country.

An Easter campaign run by APC Overnight at its Cannock headquarters has led to a sizable donation of arts and crafts materials to a local children’s hospice.

Staff at APC Overnight, the UK’s largest privately owned next day parcel distribution firm, donated a variety of craft items, puzzles and educational workbooks over the Easter period to provide fun activities for the children and families cared supported by the charity’s Hospice at Home service.

Acorns has a team of experienced, specially trained nurses and healthcare assistants who provide respite care to children within their own home. They are currently supporting 26 families in the local community, each of whom will receive some of the materials donated by APC Overnight staff.

Tara Barnes, Head of Sales & Marketing at APC Overnight, said: “Acorns supports children and their families across the Midlands who are in need of care and support and we are always delighted to be able to donate to such a fantastic cause. It was great to see so many of our staff show their generosity over the Easter period and we will certainly continue to support the great work of Acorns’ Hospice at Home scheme at every opportunity.“

Charlotte Anson of Acorns, added: “We support our children and families in many different ways but this is only possible with the backing of local businesses and the community. Donations, both cash and gifts, are vital in enabling us to run our services, including Hospice at Home. With 26 families to support, we have no doubts these items will be put to very good use.“

“On behalf of the children, families and staff at Acorns, I’d like to say a thank you to APC Overnight for once again providing us with such wonderful support.“

A new delivery service, based in Frome is set to give local residents and businesses better access to next day deliveries.

Bath Logistics, part of the Carn Logistics group, took over the role of being the APC Overnight depot for the BA postcode earlier this month.

18 staff and 15 delivery vehicles will provide collection and delivery throughout the county, marking a significant expansion in next day courier services in Somerset.

The company has already invested over £10,000 in state of the art IT and phone infrastructure, as well as new vans, to provide the best possible service to customers. A further three new delivery vehicles will also be added to the fleet in the New Year.

Bath Logistics is part of the Carn Logistics group and was chosen by APC Overnight to cover the BA postcode area following the company’s successful management of the TR postcode in Cornwall, which has seen the South West business expand by 500 per cent in just five years whilst maintaining fantastic customer service levels and a strong record of on-time deliveries.

Alan Cooper, Managing Director of Carn Logistics, said:“Carn Logistics has been founded on the basis of providing the best possible next day delivery service for customers. 600 Cornish businesses rely on us to deliver their goods across the UK every year. We’re looking forward to providing the same exceptional levels of customer services for businesses based in the BA postcode.

Carn Logistics was founded in 2009 and joined the UK’s largest independent next day delivery network, APC Overnight, in the same year.

APC Overnight made an extra special delivery earlier this month when it presented a local children’s hospice with a cheque for £5,000.

Tara Barnes, Head of Sales and Marketing, gave the cheque to Sally Insley, Community Fundraising Manager for Acorns in the Black Country at its Walstead Road hospice.

The money was raised during APC Overnight’s recent all depot meeting, which saw representatives from the company’s 115 depots throughout the UK and Ireland visiting the Midlands to find out more about its new state-of-the-art national sortation centre in Cannock Staffordshire.

The £5,000 will be used to help provide palliative care to the 2,000 plus children in the region living with life limiting or threatening conditions, and support for their families.

Speaking about the donation Sally said:“We’ve been working with APC Overnight for a number of years now and they have so far raised in excess of £14,000. We rely largely on voluntary income to keep our hospices running, so when local companies like APC Overnight decide to partner with us it makes a huge difference.

“We’d like to thank APC Overnight and all of its depots across the UK and Ireland who made this donation possible..

Tara said: “Acorns does fantastic work for children and families throughout the Black Country and we’re proud to have them as our charity partner. We’re looking forward to raising even more money for the hospice in the future..

APC Overnight, the UK’s largest privately owned next day parcel delivery firm, has appointed Karl Brown as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Karl, who is from Doncaster, has been on the APC Overnight board of directors since 2011, having initially joined the network in 1998, when he founded his same day parcel delivery business, Direct Logistics, in Goole, Yorkshire.

Boasting a wealth of experience in the transport and logistics industry having joined the RAF’s transport department upon leaving school, Karl has since grown his business through the acquisitions of two branches of Express Logistics – in Nottingham and Stockport. Karl now oversees a business with a turnover in excess of £8.5 million.

Chairman of APC Overnight, Quentin Abel, said;“The appointment of Karl as CEO allows APC Overnight to continue the success and rapid growth experienced over recent years. Karl not only brings a wealth of industry experience to this role, but also allows us to maintain continuity, having been a part of the network for 15 years, and part of our board of directors for the last two years. This is extremely important as we approach our peak period.

“This year has arguably been the biggest in our company’s history, having seen the unveiling of our new £16.5 million national sortation centre, plus a host of award wins. What is important now is that we don’t stand still, Karl’s appointment is an exciting one for our business.

Karl Brown, the new Chief Executive Officer at APC Overnight commented: “It is real honour to take up my new position at a time when the business has been performing so well. Some extremely high standards have been set by our business over recent years, and I wish to ensure this level of ambition is something we continue to maintain.

“Whilst I hope to bring new strategic direction to the APC Overnight network in order for our growth to continue, I am keen to ensure this is done in a measured and sustainable manner. By focusing on the delivery of high service levels for our customers and the support of each and every one of our depots, I have no doubt we will be able to bring more success to the business.

Karl’s predecessor, Syed Ziaullah, has taken the decision to step down from the CEO position for personal reasons.
