The Staffordshire firm, based at its four-year-old headquarters in Cannock, has re-opened its former base in Essington to give it more space to handle growing numbers of deliveries. Over the year to the end of March 2016 turnover at APC rose by 3.6 per cent to £102.4m. Spending on its facilities and on reorganising parts of the business mean profits dipped slightly to £2.3m, according to accounts just filed at Companies House. The company employs nearly 500 people collecting, sorting and distributing parcels from its hubs in Staffordshire to member companies across its UK-wide network through 115 local depots.

APC Overnight chief executive Jonathan Smith said: “The financial year ending March 2016 has been strong, particularly during the latter half with robust profit growth in Q3 and Q4. We have invested heavily in our infrastructure, service enhancements and IT strategy over the past 12 months. We continue to invest in expanding our exceptional team, allowing us to deliver on our key working principle; outstanding customer service. This is reflected in local recruitment, hires at our head office and the delivery of a dedicated training academy for our employees. The focus of our internal investment strategy has been to spend in areas that directly benefit both our network of depots and SME customers.”

​Staff at APC Head Office got in the festive spirit on Friday 16th December by holding a Christmas Jumper Day in aid of their chosen charity, Teenage Cancer Trust. Office and warehouse staff at their Kingswood Lakeside sortation centre donated money to the charity as they donned their finest festive knitwear on Friday 16th December. Teenage Cancer Trust provides support to teenagers and young people fighting cancer nationwide. Jonathan Smith, CEO commented: “The Christmas period might be a busy one for our business, but our staff were still keen to make sure they could take the opportunity to raise money for our chosen charity. It’s been a real pleasure to work with Teenage Cancer Trust throughout this year and we’re pleased we can help such a worthy cause.”

In response to business growth, APC Overnight have re-opened their 60,000 square foot Essington hub facility. This site was retained by APC Overnight to assist with seasonal capacity alongside the National Sortation Centre in Cannock and remains part of APC’s growth plans. The Essington site re-opened on Monday 21st November employing a team of up to 130 employees and works in tandem with the APC National hub based in Cannock that opened in July 2013.

Jonathan Smith, CEO stated “The re-opening of our Essington hub is a positive statement of the growth and capability of the APC network. It is a commitment to our depots and customers in our continued agenda to provide the highest quality service, both at Christmas time and throughout the year. Customers using the APC network have grown to depend on our service levels, and we are determined to meet that expectation again this year through Christmas and into 2017.”

APC Overnight wears pink to raise money for breast cancer research

Today (21st October 2016), over 500 employees at APC Overnight have been showing their support for women and men affected by breast cancer through a programme of charity activity at the company’s head office, which saw them all dressed in pink.

As well as supporting the Breast Cancer Now’s ‘Wear It Pink’ campaign, colleagues based at the head office in Cannock have also been getting creative in raising as much money as possible for the charity. The UK’s largest independent courier has even introduced their own ‘Big Pink Parcel’ competition. Employees will purchase tickets to guess what time the parcel will get scanned in the sortation system, with the winner receiving a gift voucher. After the competition, the parcel – filled with pink gifts and treats – will continue on the sortation system, eventually being delivered to the Breast Cancer Now head office in London.

The 2016 National Courier Contract Site Award was presented to Steve Wiley and acknowledged his dedication to customer service at APC Manchester Ltd. His steadfast commitment to helping his colleagues was cited as invaluable to the Manchester depot.

NEW DROP-IN DELIVERY SERVICE FOR DORSET

(From APC) A local courier firm is looking to make arranging next day deliveries easier than ever following the opening of a new drop-in centre earlier this month.

Poole-based Roadlink Logistics, part of the APC Overnight network, is the only privately owned courier company in the local area able to provide nationwide next day deliveries to customers walking in off the street.

The company makes on average 16,000 deliveries per month in the local area and receives over 600 parcels from local individuals and businesses for nationwide delivery every day.

The decision to open a new fast-track drop-in centre followed a 250 per cent increase in demand for over the counter delivery requests during 2013.

Andy Trim, Depot Principal at Roadlink Logistics, commented: “We know just how important on time delivery services are to customers, particularly when sending packages overnight, so were keen to make it as quick and hassle free as possible.“

“Whether sending a package to a friend in Frome or a cousin in Cardiff, local residents can pay us a visit, and ensure their delivery arrives at its destination on time.“

ACORNS RECEIVES SPECIAL DELIVERY FROM APC OVERNIGHT

An Easter campaign run by APC Overnight at its Cannock headquarters has led to a sizable donation of arts and crafts materials to a local children’s hospice.

Staff at APC Overnight, the UK’s largest privately owned next day parcel distribution firm, donated a variety of craft items, puzzles and educational workbooks over the Easter period to provide fun activities for the children and families cared supported by the charity’s Hospice at Home service.

Acorns has a team of experienced, specially trained nurses and healthcare assistants who provide respite care to children within their own home. They are currently supporting 26 families in the local community, each of whom will receive some of the materials donated by APC Overnight staff.

Tara Barnes, Head of Sales & Marketing at APC Overnight, said: “Acorns supports children and their families across the Midlands who are in need of care and support and we are always delighted to be able to donate to such a fantastic cause. It was great to see so many of our staff show their generosity over the Easter period and we will certainly continue to support the great work of Acorns’ Hospice at Home scheme at every opportunity.“

Charlotte Anson of Acorns, added: “We support our children and families in many different ways but this is only possible with the backing of local businesses and the community. Donations, both cash and gifts, are vital in enabling us to run our services, including Hospice at Home. With 26 families to support, we have no doubts these items will be put to very good use.“

EXPANDED NEXT DAY DELIVERY SERVICE FOR SOMERSET

A new delivery service, based in Frome is set to give local residents and businesses better access to next day deliveries.

Bath Logistics, part of the Carn Logistics group, took over the role of being the APC Overnight depot for the BA postcode earlier this month.

18 staff and 15 delivery vehicles will provide collection and delivery throughout the county, marking a significant expansion in next day courier services in Somerset.

The company has already invested over £10,000 in state of the art IT and phone infrastructure, as well as new vans, to provide the best possible service to customers. A further three new delivery vehicles will also be added to the fleet in the New Year.

Bath Logistics is part of the Carn Logistics group and was chosen by APC Overnight to cover the BA postcode area following the company’s successful management of the TR postcode in Cornwall, which has seen the South West business expand by 500 per cent in just five years whilst maintaining fantastic customer service levels and a strong record of on-time deliveries.

APC OVERNIGHT CALLED IN TO DELIVER PRECIOUS OLYMPIC CARGO

A local parcel firm received an unusual parcel request as one of their drivers collected the Olympic torch from Loughborough University.

Parcelrite Ltd, part of the APC Overnight network were asked to collect the 64-year old torch from the university’s Flames Lighting the Way offices and transport it through APC Overnight’s national sortation centre to Dundee, where it featured in a recreation of the 1948 torch relay, involving schools across the UK.

The torch, which is valued at £5,000, was collected by local driver Dave Sanders on behalf of APC Overnight – the UK’s largest overnight parcel delivery company.

Julie Strong, depot principal for Parcelrite Ltd, said: “We were delighted and honoured to collect the 1948 Olympic Torch for Dundee City Council. With Olympic Torch fever sweeping the nation, it was good to be part of a relay of our very own! This kind of job shows just how effective APC’s Overnight service is – our network pulls together to guarantee top quality service, even for precious cargo like this.”
