APC Overnight made an extra special delivery earlier this month when it presented a local children’s hospice with a cheque for £5,000.

Tara Barnes, Head of Sales and Marketing, gave the cheque to Sally Insley, Community Fundraising Manager for Acorns in the Black Country at its Walstead Road hospice.

The money was raised during APC Overnight’s recent all depot meeting, which saw representatives from the company’s 115 depots throughout the UK and Ireland visiting the Midlands to find out more about its new state-of-the-art national sortation centre in Cannock Staffordshire.

The £5,000 will be used to help provide palliative care to the 2,000 plus children in the region living with life limiting or threatening conditions, and support for their families.

Speaking about the donation Sally said:“We’ve been working with APC Overnight for a number of years now and they have so far raised in excess of £14,000. We rely largely on voluntary income to keep our hospices running, so when local companies like APC Overnight decide to partner with us it makes a huge difference.

“We’d like to thank APC Overnight and all of its depots across the UK and Ireland who made this donation possible..

Tara said: “Acorns does fantastic work for children and families throughout the Black Country and we’re proud to have them as our charity partner. We’re looking forward to raising even more money for the hospice in the future..

APC Overnight, the UK’s largest privately owned next day parcel delivery firm, has appointed Karl Brown as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Karl, who is from Doncaster, has been on the APC Overnight board of directors since 2011, having initially joined the network in 1998, when he founded his same day parcel delivery business, Direct Logistics, in Goole, Yorkshire.

Boasting a wealth of experience in the transport and logistics industry having joined the RAF’s transport department upon leaving school, Karl has since grown his business through the acquisitions of two branches of Express Logistics – in Nottingham and Stockport. Karl now oversees a business with a turnover in excess of £8.5 million.

Chairman of APC Overnight, Quentin Abel, said;“The appointment of Karl as CEO allows APC Overnight to continue the success and rapid growth experienced over recent years. Karl not only brings a wealth of industry experience to this role, but also allows us to maintain continuity, having been a part of the network for 15 years, and part of our board of directors for the last two years. This is extremely important as we approach our peak period.

“This year has arguably been the biggest in our company’s history, having seen the unveiling of our new £16.5 million national sortation centre, plus a host of award wins. What is important now is that we don’t stand still, Karl’s appointment is an exciting one for our business.

Karl Brown, the new Chief Executive Officer at APC Overnight commented: “It is real honour to take up my new position at a time when the business has been performing so well. Some extremely high standards have been set by our business over recent years, and I wish to ensure this level of ambition is something we continue to maintain.

“Whilst I hope to bring new strategic direction to the APC Overnight network in order for our growth to continue, I am keen to ensure this is done in a measured and sustainable manner. By focusing on the delivery of high service levels for our customers and the support of each and every one of our depots, I have no doubt we will be able to bring more success to the business.

Karl’s predecessor, Syed Ziaullah, has taken the decision to step down from the CEO position for personal reasons.

With last winter being the UK’s coldest for 100 years and the expectation that this year could be even chillier, APC Overnight, the UK’s largest independent parcel network, has issued a set of driving tips to keep motorists safe on the roads this winter.

As forecasters continue to predict the coldest winter on record, the delivery company has taken the decision to issue seasonal driving tips.

The tips are usually given to the firm’s delivery drivers to ensure packages are delivered safely and on-time in the run up to the busy Christmas season.

Surjit Ram, APC Overnight Transport Manager said:“With winter conditions getting increasingly worse in recent years we’ve decided to make our winter driving tips available to everyone to help keep drivers safe on the road.

“Whether you are commuting to work, or travelling to visit distant relatives over the Christmas period, the country’s winter conditions have the potential to add serious delays to your journey, not to mention putting your safety at risk.

“As the nights draw in and temperatures drop, motorists should take the opportunity to put their vehicles through a winter service, as well as checking antifreeze, coolant, and battery levels. Visibility is often the key to safety, so it is always a good idea to replace wiper blades before the seasonal onslaught of rain and snow.

“Winter tyres should be considered. It’s also worth keeping stock of emergency amenities, ranging from grit and a shovel, to bottled water and an in-car phone charger.

“Finally, it’s important to make sure there is a spare tyre, the correct locking wheel nuts and a jack on-board, particularly if the tyre has been recently changed.

APC Overnight’s winter driving tips at a glance

  • Service the vehicle and check antifreeze, battery, and coolant levels.
  • Replace wiper blades.
  • Consider changing to winter tyres.
  • Ensure the vehicle is equipped with a spare tyre, warning triangle, jack, torch, and high visibility jacket.
  • Keep a stock of additional emergency items such as a small bag of grit or road salt, a shovel, antifreeze, blanket, water, and an in-car phone charger.

The UK’s largest independent parcel network, APC Overnight, has been nominated for two prestigious industry awards.

A panel of industry experts has shortlisted the overnight delivery specialist in both the Innovation and Network of the Year categories as part of this year’s Motor Transport Awards, the UK’s biggest awards ceremony for the road transport industry.

The Network of the Year nomination will look at how the company’s unique structure saw its 115 independent member depots make excellent use of local knowledge to provide an outstanding on time delivery service last year.

The Innovation nomination meanwhile is a collaboration between APC Overnight and Cartwrights, and looks at the two companies’ development and trial of bespoke extended trailers across APC Overnight’s delivery network in an effort to reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency.

“We have a firm commitment to offering fast and efficient on-time delivery, with a friendly, local service,” said APC Overnight chief executive, Syed Ziaullah. “All of our depots are independently run businesses and I believe customers can see the benefit of working with a local company and the commitment to customer service when they use APC Overnight.”

Syed continued: “Being recognised by industry insiders is a fantastic endorsement and it’s great that these two awards represent two very different sides of our business. We constantly look to be ahead of the competition by investing in our business and the introduction of these four extended length double deck trailers is a key part of this.”

The UK’s largest independent parcel network, APC Overnight, is celebrating after being crowned ‘Business of the Year 2013’ at the Express and Star’s Business Awards for the second successive year – the first time any organisation has won the award two years in a row.

APC Overnight, which comprises 115 independently-owned depots across the UK, was singled out for its performance during the 2012 Olympics and its outstanding profit growth, which has enabled the firm to invest £16.5 million in a new 138,000 sq. ft. national sortation centre in Cannock, Staffordshire.

Having won the award for the first time in 2012, APC Overnight’s successful defence of its title underlines the achievements and continued growth of the business over the last two years. This progress has been thanks to the firm’s increased levels of customer service, which is founded upon a rising number of referrals and repeat business.

The award has raised the profile of the logistics industry in the West Midlands, not least thanks to the Express and Star’s status as the biggest-selling regional evening newspaper in Britain.

Syed Ziaullah, chief executive of APC Overnight, said: “To claim the award for a second successive year is an unbelievable achievement and underlines the high levels of expertise and commitment consistently demonstrated by our staff.”

“Our continued achievement is largely thanks to the co-operative structure of our business, which allows everyone employed by the organisation to play their part in maintaining outstanding service levels for our customers.”
