2012 Recognitions

Logistics Management 2012 Quest for Quality

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. earned Logistics Management magazine’s “2012 Quest for Quality Award” in the Multiregional LTL Carriers category. This year marks the eighth time Old Dominion has won the award.

Logistics Management readers evaluate carriers by examining numerous criteria, including on-time performance, company value, customer service, equipment and operations, and information technology. Readers then vote on the winners.

SupplyChainBrain 2012 Great Supply Chain Partner

SupplyChainBrain magazine named Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. a 2012 Great Supply Chain Partner, marking the fifth consecutive year the company has earned the honor.

Old Dominion was among the top 100 companies selected for the 2012 list, which SupplyChainBrain compiles based on hundreds of customer nominations.

Inbound Logistics G75 List

Inbound Logistics has named Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. to its annual list of green supply chain partners. This is the third consecutive year the company has been named to the 75 Green Supply Chain Partners (G75) list.

To compile the list, the magazine’s editors chose 75 companies offering a range of logistics services – including 3PLs, truckers, ports and forklifts – they determined to be truly “walking the walk” when it comes to commitment to supply chain sustainability.

CIO 100

CIO magazine named Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. a recipient of the 2012 CIO 100 Award, marking the fourth consecutive year the company has been honored with this prestigious award. The award recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

2011 Recognitions

Mastio Best National LTL Carrier

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. was honored as the No. 1 less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier by Mastio & Company as part of the company’s 2011 Value and Loyalty Benchmarking Study.

To develop its rankings, Mastio & Company surveyed more than 2,000 transportation decision makers about their shipping preferences and needs. Shippers participating in the study graded carriers’ performances in 30 service categories, including quality of shipping service, on-time delivery and likelihood to recommend service to others. OD ranked first in national LTL carriers included in the study and shippers voted the company first in 21 of the 30 categories deemed to be most important to customers.

Forbes Magazine Top 100 Most Trustworthy Companies

Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. has been named one of America’s 100 Most Trustworthy Companies by Forbes magazine. The annual recognition is awarded to publicly traded corporations that have consistently demonstrated transparent, conservative accounting practices and solid corporate governance and management.

Inbound Logistics Top 100 Motor Carrier

Old Dominion was named to Inbound Logistics” Top 100 Motor Carriers list. This list serves as a qualitative assessment of service providers that the magazine’s editors feel are best equipped to meet and surpass readers’ evolving motor freight transportation needs.

CIO 100

Old Dominion was honored as a recipient of the 2011 CIO 100 Award. This is the third consecutive year OD has won this award which recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

Merit Award (from Kansas Department of Commerce)

Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. has received an Award of Merit from the Kansas Department of Commerce for its commitment to quality service and its positive impact on the state’s economy.

SupplyChainBrain 2011 Great Supply Chain Partner

SupplyChainBrain magazine named Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. a 2011 Great Supply Chain Partner for the fourth year in a row.

Old Dominion was among the top 100 companies selected for the 2011 list, which SupplyChainBrain compiles based on hundreds of customer nominations. Given annually, the award recognizes the transportation provider that has demonstrated leadership within the transportation industry and that has made a notable effort to support NASSTRAC throughout the previous calendar year.

Institutional Investor’s America’s Best CFO – J. Wes Frye

J. Wes Frye, senior vice president – finance and CFO of Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., has been recognized on Institutional Investor’s America’s Best CFOs list for 2011.

Frye ranked second on the Airfreight & Surface Transportation industry list and will be honored June 1 at the magazine’s CFO Awards Dinner on the New York Stock Exchange Trading Floor.

United Way’s Spirit of High Point Award

Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. was honored with the “Spirit of High Point Award” from the United Way of Greater High Point during the chapter’s annual campaign celebration. The premier award is given annually to a locally-based company deemed to have conducted the best employee campaign of the year. Old Dominion was the top contributor to the United Way of Greater High Point, donating a total of $281,801 through employee and corporate pledges.

2010 Recognitions

Ryder Carrier Quality Award: LTL National Carrier of the Year

Ryder System Inc. today named Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. its LTL National Carrier of the Year for the second year in a row. Given annually, the awards recognize Ryder’s partners who have shown excellence in transporting the company’s freight. Carriers’ performance is measured using a variety of metrics, including on-time performance, claims handling, customer service, technology applications, economic value and innovation.

InformationWeek 500, September

Old Dominion was named to the 2010 InformationWeek 500 – a list of the top technology innovators in the United States. The company ranked No. 15 on the magazine’s overall list and topped the logistics and transportation category.

Logistic Management’s Quest for Quality Award, July

Old Dominion earned Logistics Management magazine’s “2010 Quest for Quality Award” in a pair of categories – Expedited Motor Carriers and Multiregional LTL Carriers. The industry-wide survey recognizes the leading providers of transportation services.

Old Dominion was awarded JB Hunt’s Award of Excellence for providing superior LTL solutions.

Triad Area Business Leader of the Year, May

David Congdon, president and CEO of Old Dominion, was named the 2010 Triad Area Business Leader of the Year. The Triad Business Leader of the Year Award is given to the individual who demonstrates significant business accomplishments as a leader in the Triad (North Carolina) area.

Piedmont Business Ethics Award, April

Old Dominion received the 2010 Piedmont Business Ethics Award. Sponsored by the Greensboro chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, the award is presented annually to Piedmont Triad companies that demonstrate a firm commitment to ethical business practices in everyday operations, management philosophies and responses to crisis or challenges.

Top Green Shop, March

Fleet Equipment magazine and Citgo Petroleum Corp. honored Old Dominion as the Top Green Shop for 2009, citing the company’s commitment to building environmentally friendly facilities and using green technologies.

Continuing Automotive Service Education (CASE) certification, March

Old Dominion was recognized as an Automotive Service Education (ASE) training provider, making it the first less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier to earn such an honor for its instructor-led training program. Continuing Automotive Service Education (CASE) is a voluntary ASE certification program for training entities that provide continuing education to working automotive technicians.

2009 Honors

  • United Way Spirit Award: Old Dominion received the 2009 Community Spirit Award recognizing the $265,122 Old Dominion raised during their 2009 United Way campaign.
  • BDP Partner Vision Award: As one of BDP’s top suppliers, performing customer service above and beyond what is expected; Old Dominion was awarded the company’s Partner Vision Award.
  • Goodyear LTL Long-haul Carrier of the Year: Goodyear selected Old Dominion as LTL Long-haul Carrier of the Year.
  • Totalogistix Inc. Carrier of the Year: Old Dominion was selected as Totalogistix Inc. Carrier of the Year.
  • Heinz USA Carrier of the Year: Old Dominion was selected as Heinz USA Carrier of the Year.
  • CaseStack LTL National Carrier of the Year: Old Dominion was rated against several metrics, including operational performance, on time service, problem resolution, pricing, efficiency, availability and overall service quality.
  • CIO 100: CIO magazine honored Old Dominion with the 2009 CIO. The annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology.
