Estes Salutes America’s Professional Truck Drivers If You Got It…A Truck Brought It!

Published by:

October 24, 2016 – That decades-old industry saying is still true today—trucking is literally the engine that keeps America moving. And what can’t be overlooked are the 3.4 million professionals who drive those trucks along our nation’s roadways. The role they play in our economy is absolutely vital. In 2015 alone, they delivered nearly 10 billion tons of freight.

Estes Express Lines has long recognized the importance of the behind-the-wheel professionals who keep all of that product moving. The company’s 85-year success wouldn’t have been possible without a strong team of drivers—along with thousands of dockworkers, mechanics and other personnel who provide critical support across a nationwide network of more than 215 terminals.

Estes Opts Out of 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series

Published by:

(January 28, 2015 ) Estes Express Lines, a national provider of freight transportation services, announced today it will not continue as the primary sponsor of the #13 ThorSport Toyota Tundra in the 2015 season of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

“Estes is proud to have been part of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2014. We found benefit in the brand promotion and employee engagement opportunities available through the sponsorship, and as much as we would have liked to continue working with ThorSport and driver Jeb Burton, we just weren’t able to reach mutually agreeable terms with the team,” said Rob Estes, President and CEO of Estes Express Lines.

“While many of us at Estes are disappointed we weren’t able to find a way to reasonably continue the sponsorship, this is an opportunity for us to direct even more attention to our core business. We still have every confidence in Jeb’s ability and performance as an up-and-coming NASCAR star, and we wish him, his family and everyone at ThorSport all the best in 2015 and beyond.”

Estes Launching Solar Power Generation at Two Terminals

Published by:

RICHMOND, VA—Estes Express Lines announced today that it is utilizing solar power generation at the company’s Elkton and Baltimore, Md. terminals.

The Elkton terminal solar power system was fully interconnected with DELMARVA Power at the end of December 2012 and is projected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 254 metric tons. The Baltimore terminal is anticipated to start in early 2013 via an interconnection with Baltimore Gas & Electric. This solar panel installation is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 227 metric tons. Combined, the offset of CO2 emissions is the equivalent of combusting more than 53,766 gallons of gas annually.

“Estes is constantly evaluating how we can improve our operations to minimize our environmental impact,” said Rob Estes, president and CEO. “Adding solar power generation to these terminals is a significant step toward reducing our carbon footprint, and has the dual benefit of reducing energy costs, which helps us remain competitive in today’s marketplace.”

Solar power is estimated to provide 93 percent of the current electrical supply needed by the two facilities. The Elkton terminal will produce 360,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually through 1,232 rooftop solar panels. In Baltimore, solar power will generate more than 320,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year through 1,100 rooftop panels. Combined, this is the equivalent of powering 72 homes annually.

Estes’ personnel will monitor energy production in real time remotely from its corporate office in Richmond, Va., enabling the company to translate the data and monitor energy savings on an ongoing basis. Estes is working with Dynamic Energy Solutions on the solar energy generation project.

Estes’ specialized division was recognized as the 2012 Direct to Customer Carrier of the Year and Estes Forwarding Worldwide (EFW), a wholly owned subsidiary of Estes Express Lines, the 2012 LTL Carrier of the Year.

Specialized has worked with The Home Depot on innovative ways to improve customer service. Today, the division of Estes serves nearly 300 locations and will make an estimated 195,000 deliveries to consumers on behalf of Home Depot by the end of 2012.

EFW earned the award for its outstanding commitment to customer service and dedication to the alliance between the two companies. Today, EFW is the preferred expedited carrier for Home Depot and handles an average of 20,000 shipments annually.

Estes Express Lines Announces Leadership Changes in Operations and Sales

Published by:

RICHMOND, Va.—Estes Express Lines has announced the promotion of two Estes leaders in operations and sales. Al Bucher has been named corporate vice president of operations, and Pat Martin is now corporate vice president of sales.

Prior to this promotion, Al Bucher served as Estes’ regional vice president of the Great Plains, a position he held since joining the company in 2010. His history with Estes started in 2002 when he joined Lakeville Motor Express (LME) as director of operations. Both companies were part of ExpressLINK, a regional carrier network formed to cover the United States and Canada. Bucher went on to become president and executive vice president of LME. He started his freight transportation career in 1981, holding various operations and sales positions with Hyman Freightways, American Freight Lines and Dayton Freight Lines. Over the coming months, Bucher will transition into his new role and will be located in Richmond, VA, at the Estes corporate office.

He is taking over for J.T. “Junior” Johnson who has been in operations with Estes for 47 years. Johnson will spend the next several months working with his successor to affect a seamless transition. Once the transition is complete, Estes will continue to benefit from Johnson’s leadership as a field resource for employee development and new operational process implementation until his final retirement.

In his new position as corporate vice president of sales, Pat Martin is responsible for revenue growth management for the LTL division specifically, as well as the coordination of sales strategies enterprise-wide. Martin joined Estes in 2001 in Richmond terminal sales and has served Estes in numerous posts, including regional vice president of Estes West and vice president of field sales and strategic planning. He will be located at the Estes corporate office.

Martin replaces Chuck Parker, who is retiring in the coming months after 44 years in the freight transportation industry. Parker joined Estes in 1995 as vice president of national accounts and was promoted to vice president of sales in 2002.

“Fundamental to Estes’ success is the breadth of our leadership experience and expertise that enables us to provide the highest quality freight transportation services and outstanding customer service,” said Billy Hupp, Estes’ COO and executive vice president. “We extend our deepest gratitude to Junior and Chuck for their contributions throughout their careers, and congratulate Al and Pat in their well-deserved promotions.”
