DHL and Auchan renew successful partnership

05/15/2017 – DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist of Deutsche Post DHL Group has secured a contract renewal for continued management of Auchan’s inbound supply chain operations. Auchan Retail is the second largest supermarket operator in France, present in 16 countries in Western, Central & Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa with 3,836 hypermarkets and convenience stores. As part of the renewal, DHL International Supply Chain, the specialist supply chain management team of DHL Global Forwarding, will continue the nearly 10 years lasting partnership by providing purchase order and vendor management, origin consolidation and destination coordination services.

Deutsche Post DHL Group remains on course for growth

05/11/2017 – Deutsche Post DHL Group, the world’s leading mail and logistics company, increased revenue significantly in the first quarter of 2017 and posted a further improvement in operating profit. Group revenue climbed by more than EUR 1 billion to EUR 14.9 billion. All four divisions contributed to the strong growth. Volumes and revenue saw substantial growth in particular in the German and international Parcel and eCommerce businesses as well as the global Express business. With Group EBIT of EUR 885 million, Deutsche Post DHL Group surpassed the good prior-year result and registered the strongest first quarter in the company’s history¹.

“Following a record year in 2016, the upward trend has continued at Deutsche Post DHL Group this year. We reported growth in all four divisions in the first quarter: Our strategy is working, and we are confident that we will achieve our targets for 2017,” said Frank Appel, CEO, Deutsche Post DHL Group.

DHL brings Internet of Things to logistics

05/10/2017 – DHL Supply Chain, the contract logistics specialist within the Deutsche Post DHL Group, forges ahead on its path of digitalization by implementing Internet of Things technology into warehousing to optimize operational efficiency and lay the foundations for safer work practices. Together with Cisco and start-up Conduce, DHL is testing the technology at three pilot sites in Germany, the Netherlands and Poland.

The solution enables DHL to monitor operational activities in real-time through a responsive graphical visualization of operational data aggregated from sensors on scanners and material handling equipment, and DHL’s warehouse management system. Visualizing operational data with heat maps has changed the way data is analyzed and used at the pilot sites, and is expected to contribute to operational efficiencies and improve employee safety.

05/08/2017 – Effective immediately, Amazon’s smart speaker “Alexa” can update DHL customers on their parcel shipment

DHL Parcel is expanding its customer service to include a new voice-activated information service. Effective immediately, DHL customers can query Amazon’s digital smart speaker “Alexa” for information on their parcel’s current whereabouts.

By activating Alexa’s DHL Parcel “skill” via the Alexa app, users can ask their Amazon Echo or Echo Dot smart speaker to provide information on their shipment status, for example: “Alexa, ask DHL where my parcel is”. The voice-controlled interaction with Alexa is part of DHL Parcel’s service strategy to continually improve the customer experience. The goal here is to make it quick and easy for every customer to receive an answer to his or her question at any time.

DHL opens China Rail Competence Center in Stuttgart

05/08/2017 – DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist of Deutsche Post DHL Group, has opened a central China Rail Competence Center in Stuttgart, Germany to ensure the more efficient and customer-friendly coordination of ever-growing freight volumes transported between Germany and Asia by the rail freight service.

“Rail freight volumes between Germany and Asia have increased 10-fold in just one year. In order to meet ever-increasing demand, the onus is on us to grow, optimize processes and create synergies. It is for this very reason that we decided to establish a central China Rail Competence Center,” states Volker Oesau, CEO DHL Global Forwarding Germany and Central Europe, explaining the strategic rationale behind the decision.

DHL invests in four new collaborative robots to provide a flexible and innovative solution for its UKI co-packing customers

05/05/2017 – DHL Supply Chain today announced the purchase of four Sawyer robots, the first step of its UKI robotics deployment programme. The robots will be flexibly used across its 19 co-packing and Production Logistics centres nationwide.

Sawyer robots are some of the most advanced collaborative robots currently available and can support production and warehouse staff by automating repetitive tasks. The four robots will allow DHL to leverage automation flexibly, moving the robots between different sites in support of seasonal demands.

Dividend increase to EUR 1.05 approved by large majority of shareholders at Deutsche Post AG Annual General Meeting

04/28/2017 – At the Annual General Meeting of Deutsche Post AG held in the RuhrCongress in Bochum, Germany, around 900 shareholders approved the resolutions proposed by the Board of Management and the Supervisory Board by large majorities. Shareholders with a majority equivalent to 99.93% of the company’s share capital present at the AGM resolved, among other issues, to pay a dividend of EUR 1.05 per share. This reflects an increase of EUR 0.20 over the previous year’s level. As in past years, the dividend will be paid free of tax for shareholders living in Germany.

At the same time, he confirmed the Group’s ambitious targets. Operating profit is to rise from EUR 3.5 billion to around EUR 3.75 billion in 2017. The CEO also confirmed the Group’s medium-term goal of increasing EBIT by an annual average of more than 8 percent between 2013 and 2020.
