Averitt and Toshiba win industry award for results-driven supply chain alliance

Published by:

COOKEVILLE, Tenn (February 18, 2014) — For the second straight year, Averitt has been recognized for developing creative transportation solutions for its customers with an Alliance Award. World Trade 100 magazine, a leading transportation industry publication, and SMC3, an industry trade association, have honored Averitt, PITT OHIO, The Reliance Network, and Toshiba America Business Solutions for developing and implementing creative and cost-saving logistics processes.

The Alliance awards program recognizes collaborations in high-performing supply chains that are driving results. Attention is focused on why and how the alliance was formed, the roles of the various partners, and the results attained by the close partnership and cooperation represented by the alliance.

Using pool distribution and shipment consolidation, Averitt and PITT OHIO helped reduce Toshiba’s transportation costs by 25 percent while also eliminating multiple same-day deliveries.

“We’re honored to be recognized with back-to-back Alliance awards,” said Phil Pierce, Averitt’s vice president of sales and marketing. “We’ve been fortunate to partner with great customers like Toshiba who are open to exploring flexible, innovative options when it comes to developing transportation solutions. The results have been outstanding, and we’re excited to continue developing these types of partnerships with our customers.”

Averitt Rolls Out Climate Controlled Solutions for LTL Shipments

Published by:

COOKEVILLE, Tenn (February 3, 2014) — Averitt Express is now offering climate controlled solutions in self contained, self-powered LTL shipping units. These units provide flexibility since they can be combined with dry cargo and other climate controlled units.

“We asked our customers and they are very interested in climate controlled services, especially in the LTL environment,” commented Phil Pierce, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Averitt.

“We researched the options available in the market and believe partnering with Climate Controlled Containers is our best entry into this market segment,” added Pierce. “The tracking features are very impressive, customers will be able to use as many or as few containers as they need, and this is a very environmentally responsible way to transport sensitive and even high value cargo.”

“Averitt is the first transportation company to offer this service,” explained Ken Broussard, president and founder of Climate Controlled Containers, Inc. “We are delighted with this partnership and look forward to helping Averitt customers. The 24/7 tracking allows monitoring of everything from temperature and humidity to entry and function alarms. Customers can track their shipments live on the web via any device and can even watch their shipments via live video.”

About Climate Controlled Containers

In 1999, Climate Controlled Containers Inc.’s President and Founder, Ken Broussard, had long been in the business of designing and manufacturing fire & safety equipment and aluminum shipping containers. His background in designing shipping containers and firefighting emergency response equipment led to the idea that a battery operated or self-powered and self-contained refrigerated and heated shipping container for palletized temperature sensitive cargo would prove invaluable in disaster response and during post-disaster reconstruction. The uses for such a unique refrigerated shipping container could also replace traditional refrigerated temperature transport and storage methods. The Cold Box proved ideal to LTL trucking companies that were interested in offering temperature controlled transport services specializing in refrigerated, heated and frozen cargo. Most importantly the active temperature reduction potential and control of The Cold box shipper presented a competitive, if not superior alternative to shipping with dry ice for high value temperature sensitive pharmaceutical and specialty chemical payloads.

Averitt launches industry’s first 100 percent mobile-enabled website

Published by:

COOKEVILLE, Tenn (January 23, 2014) — Averitt Express has launched a redesigned version of its corporate website, AverittExpress.com.

The new AverittExpress.com is the industry’s first 100 percent mobile-enabled website. Every shipping tool that is available on the site — literally dozens of tools — is mobile-friendly across all types of devices, including smartphones and tablets. This aspect makes the new site unique among transportation providers in Averitt’s class.

In order to create a site with this degree of mobile flexibility, developers spent months completely rebuilding the site using an innovative web design approach known as “responsive web design.”

AverittExpress.com was completely redesigned to provide a better user experience, with such features as:

  • Faster speeds
  • Simplified navigation
  • Expanded tracking tools
  • Easy-to-follow tutorials to explain how specific tools work
  • Improvements to Ship Plus®, our one-stop online shipping interface
  • More video and interactive media than ever before
  • And much, much more

“Redesign really doesn’t accurately describe the process our team has spent on this project, listening to customer feedback and applying it to a website that works no matter what you’re using to access it,” said Phil Pierce, Averitt’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “To do that, we’ve completely rewired the site to improve speed, reliability and ease of use. Once we finished with that, we renovated the rest of the site to make it much more modern, and much easier for our associates and customers to use.”

Longtime Averitt Sales Executive Calls It A Career

Published by:

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (July 23, 2013) – During a 20-year career with Averitt Express, Charlie Webster established a reputation for being a top-flight sales executive and a trusted friend. Recently, he added another title: retiree.

Webster was honored with a reception at the company’s Cookeville headquarters prior to his final day as an Averitt regional sales director.

“Charlie is one of the friendliest and most unique individuals I have ever met,” said Phil Pierce, Averitt’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “His relationship-building skills have been a critical factor in our team’s continued growth over the last two decades. Charlie also has the uncanny ability to meet a person from anywhere in the country and know someone else from that area. I’m sure he’ll put that talent to great use in the next stage of his life.”

While Pierce admits that Webster’s shoes are rather large to fill, he said he feels confident in longtime Averitt associate Randy Martin stepping into the role of regional sales director. Martin’s territory covers all of Tennessee, where Averitt has service centers established in Chattanooga, Cookeville, Fayetteville, Jackson Knoxville, Memphis, Nashville and the Tri-Cities.

Martin, who has been with Averitt since 1985, most recently served as a director of business development. He will continue operating out of the Knoxville facility.

“We’re excited about bringing Randy into this expanded role with our sales team. He’s an outstanding associate who has earned this move, and we know he’ll do an excellent job for us and our customers,” added Pierce.

Averitt Shares Global Logistics Strategy With Nashville Educators

Published by:

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (July 16, 2012) – Today’s high school education goes far beyond “The Three R’s,” as globalization puts even greater importance on the role logistics plays in today’s economy. As part of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools’ “Academies of Nashville” program, teachers from Hillsboro High School participated in a teacher externship at Averitt’s Cookeville headquarters to learn more about this expanding career path.

The four educators from Hillsboro High School spent the day observing the “behind-the-scenes” strategy the full-service transportation provider uses to provide a variety of solutions to its customers. The group toured the corporate headquarters, spending time with experienced industry veterans who oversee Averitt’s supply chain solutions, truckload, expedited, international and customer service operations, while also learning about local pickup and delivery at the Cookeville service center.

“We’re happy to provide educators with hands-on experience they can share with their students about how the transportation and supply chain management industry works,” said Elise Leeson, Averitt’s director of human resources. “Through programs like this, today’s students will gain the set of skills they need to be well-prepared for their careers. Logistics is an exciting and challenging career field, and we’re honored to partner with schools helping to shape tomorrow’s workforce.”

The Academies of Nashville program provides students with hands-on learning in a project-based educational environment. The Hillsboro High School Academy of International Business and Communications is the only academy program that provides a Global Logistics track.

Participating in the externship program is just one way Averitt supports education. In addition to sponsoring athletics, music and other extracurricular programs at Upper Cumberland elementary, middle and high schools, Averitt also works closely with Tennessee Tech University through an internship program and with financial support.
