EVA Distinguishes A321-200 with Its 2nd Star Alliance Livery New Aircraft is 1st in Taiwan with fuel-saving Sharklets

TAIPEI, TAIWAN (23 Oct., 2013) – EVA Air chose its newest Airbus 321-200 to be the second aircraft in its fleet to brandish its special Star Alliance livery. The new aircraft is also the first in Taiwan to be equipped with fuel-saving Sharklet wingtip devices. EVA will deploy the aircraft on regional routes, further upgrading passenger comfort on its short-haul and medium-haul flights.

EVA company officials, including Chairman K.W. Chang, took delivery of the new aircraft in Hamburg on 22 Oct., 2013. The new A321-200, aircraft number B-16206, arrived in Taiwan today (23 Oct., 2013). It is the fifth A321-200 in EVA’s fleet and will be followed by 13 more, scheduled for delivery through the end of 2015. EVA placed the first of the aircraft in its fleet in October 2012.

The aircraft’s Sharklet wingtip devices equip it to potentially save as much as four percent in overall fuel burn and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 700 tonnes annually. The devices are also expected to enhance take-off performance and increase flight range.  Made of lightweight composites, Sharklets on the new A321-200 are 2.4-meter-tall. The remaining A321-200s EVA has scheduled for delivery will also be equipped with Sharklets.

EVA is operating the four A321-200s already in its fleet on flights from Taiwan to Northeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China and Southeast Asia. It has selected the A321-200s to replace its MD-90s.

EVA chose one of its Boeing 777-300ERs for its first Star Alliance livery, in accordance with the alliance’s guidelines. The airline gave the distinctive aircraft a starring role when it officially joined Star Alliance on 18 June, 2013. EVA primarily flies the Boeing 777-300ER on long-haul flights to the US and Europe.

EVA is also adding seven more Boeing 777-300ERs to its fleet with deliveries scheduled from April 2014 through June 2016. Once EVA has all of the new aircraft it has on order, it will beoperating more than 70 jets.
