ABF Freight Lands on Green Supply Chain Partner List for Seventh Consecutive Year

  • Carrier appears in Inbound Logistics’ annual “Lean and Green” issue
  • List provides source for green supply chain management and logistics partners

FORT SMITH, Arkansas, June 23, 2016 — ABF Freight®, an ArcBestsm company (Nasdaq: ARCB), is honored to be selected by the editors of Inbound Logistics magazine as a Green Supply Chain Partner for 2016 for the seventh consecutive year.

To choose the annual list of companies committed to sustainability, Inbound Logistics editors considered four benchmarks: Measurable green results, sustainability innovation, continuous improvement and industry recognition.

“It’s a great honor to once again be recognized by Inbound Logistics as a G75 company,” said ABF Freight President Tim Thorne. “Our new and innovative equipment is at the heart of our sustainability achievements. ABF Freight has invested heavily in our fleet, which enables us to more efficiently serve our customers while also achieving reductions in CO2 emissions.”

ABF Freight recently purchased 600 road tractors with improved fuel economy, decreased emissions and automated manual transmissions. Its road tractors are speed governed to a maximum of 63 miles per hour to ensure maximum fuel efficiency. As a result, each ABF Freight truck emits significantly fewer tons of CO2 than identical trucks operating at 68 mph. The less-than-truckload carrier also purchased 800 new 28-foot trailers with aerodynamic trailer skirts and has retrofitted almost 15,000 trailers with skirts to reduce wind resistance and improve fuel economy. Interior post (smooth-sided) trailers also are used to further improve wind resistance and fuel economy
